A major update to Pocket Sergeant was requested, the ability to have all the information be stored on a server where it can easily be edited, and have updated deployed instantly without having to wait for them to be processed by the App Stores. Along with this, a redesign of the UI for the app was requested, so it was decided to do a full remake of the original Pocket Sergeant app (which was made using PhoneGap) using Xamarin, and create an easy to use WYSIWYG backend to edit the content!
“This is definitely a must have for UK Cops regardless of role. I consider it my UK policing equivalent of The Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy”
For this, I created a backend system for deploying content updates to the app, made using Laravel / PHP.
Content can be edited server side with a simple WYSIWYG interface, and then pushed live with the click of a button, being made available to users of the app instantly.
The app was created in Xamarin this time, providing a fluid, user-friendly & familiar native interface for both Android & iOS.
- Xamarin (C# – App)
- Xamarin Forms (Cross-platform UI)
- Laravel (PHP – Backend/Editor)
- SQLite (Database storage – App)
- MariaDB / MySQL (Database storage – Backend/Editor)
